Bedford Researcher Ch.8- Searching for Information with Digital Resources

Since the computer and internet has become the man research tool in our day and age, finding credible and academic sources is the primary concern. The Bedford Researcher offers a guide when dealing with digital resources. First they talk about "preparing to search." This section gives ideas like: reviewing your research plan, identifying keywords and phrases (by free writing, brainstorming, clustering, & referring to your research question), plan basic searches (using one or more keywords or phrases to search), plan advanced searches (focusing more on specific things using different operations), and getting feedback on you plans.
Library catalogs allow you to search for a wide range of sources using genres and authors, and allow you to zero in on specific ideas and topics based on keywords, titles of sources (mostly books), subject headings or call numbers or you can even search with a multiple strategies.
Searching with databases cover a much broader collection of sources. The Bedford Researcher encourages you to use databases relevant to your topic. They also say to search news databases for current events on your topic. Other databases to search are: subject databases, bibliographies, citation indexes, media databases.
